I saw a Delorean while I was running the other day. You know, the car from Back to the Future, that everyone thought was awesome in the 80s? With the flux capacitor? That ran on plutonium and disappeared into flaming skidmarks?
Ok, this one wasn’t like that and probably couldn’t travel back in time, but it still got me thinking (naturally). What things would I change about my life if I could travel back in time and convince younger Ironman Attorney to take a different path. What lessons on life could I teach myself? Would it lead to professional happiness? Would I still be practicing law?
I’ve made lots of dumb decisions. But I’ve also made lots of great decisions. I’ve done stupid things. I’ve done smart things. I’ve done good things and bad things. I sound like Dr. Seuss. In any event, my mind started swimming. Before I knew it, I ticked off a quick 6 miles. More importantly, I realized that I wouldn’t change anything.
Why? Because all of those things make up the person I am today and, generally, I’m pretty happy. So, sorry Doc Brown and Marty McFly. Your time machine wouldn’t really help me.
In an unrelated matter, I read that tomorrow is the biggest party night of the year. Not because it is November 24th, but because it is the night before Thanksgiving. I guess everyone returns to their hometown to be with their families, then meets up with all their high school friends to catch up and go to the bars. As a Maryland DUI attorney, I just want to tell everyone to be careful – if you need a ride or a taxi, get one. All it takes is one big mistake to ruin your life or someone else’s life.
