The Ironman Attorney is a huge football fan. College, professional, high school, Pop Warner, it doesn’t matter. If there is a game on, I have to watch. My family has season tickets for the Washington Redskins. So, in honor of the Skins huge win against the hated Dallas Cowboys, I thought I would pick out a couple highlights of this past Sunday’s game and apply them to the blog. But read to the end, because there is a point beyond football.
DeAngelo Hall
I’ve seen some exciting games at FedEx Field, home of the Redskins. But there are a few plays that really stick out in my mind as the most exciting. This was one of them:
On the last play before halftime, DeAngelo Hall, the Skins oft-maligned defensive back held onto the Cowboys’ Tashard Choice, helped strip the ball, and returned the fumble for a touchdown. The whole complexion of the game changed in one instant because Hall gave it his all on a play that was essentially over. The Redskins signed DeAngelo Hall to a very rich contract last year, and he continually makes big play after big play for the team. He makes bold statements about his abilities, and then tries his hardest to deliver and back up those statements. 99.9% of the time, he is spot on or over delivers.
Fat Albert
For those of you who don’t know, Fat Albert is the nickname for Albert Haynesworth, the Redskins multi-multi-multi-million-dollar crybaby. Despite receiving more than $30 million over the past two years, Fat Albert refuses to buy into the Redskins’ team approach. First, he announced that he was unhappy because he was going to be changing positions on the field. Then, he missed a bunch of offseason workouts. When he finally reported to practice, he was out of shape. Then, he publicly decried the Redskins front office and head coach. Finally, he continually sulks on the sideline if he is taken out or isn’t happy with how he is being used. He is a headache, a distraction, and is generally an unappreciative and overpaid jerk.
While I can write and talk about football forever, that’s enough of my rant about Hall and Haynesworth. There are actually some life lessons to be learned from these two players. The first is to enjoy what you are doing, make commitments, and stick to them. The second is to not be a jerk. If you stick with those two principles in life, the rest is cream cheese.
